My experience as a makeup artist on a local festival ✨

Hello my lovelies!

So then as you all know from my previous post I’ve been really busy for Sunday just gone (6th August) preparing for my local festival. I just wanted to share my experience from the day!

Ok, so I started setting up at 9 in the morning and quickly realised I needed a much bigger table.. this would go on to someone knocking my NYX Glitter all over the floor 😭. But that’s all part of it I guess these things happen! I was part of three gazebos for one shop I’ve recently joined called Cats Pyjamas. It offers a range of things, mostly gothic style, clothing, henna, holistic services, candles, ornaments, healing crystals.. and now a makeup artist. Everyone who works there has such a unique energy. It’s lovely to be newly part of their team!

The day started off a little slow until more people started rolling in. I went out armed with flyers but felt so weird trying to give them to people, it was a new thing to me. It was a Rock Festival so there was a lot of great music, food stalls, sweets, beer tent, bouncy castles and much more!

I started the day off by doing a gothic makeover. Kayla (the girl) had a very gothic dress on and she had purple hair so improvised. Black velvet lips and smokey purple eyes with dark eyeliner, with a pale foundation base to make the eyes and lips pop. I also did another makeover afterwards for another lady as she doesn’t wear makeup but wanted something simple. The day kicked off better at around half 12.

I ended up mainly doing kids and young teens makeup, such as mermaid styles and neon festival dots, with the occasional more mature age group popping in for something fun! Glitters, neon paints and hair braids was my main attraction. I also had a number boys so that was really cool too! It was quite nice working with all ages as I didn’t actually expect to be doing mainly kids under 10 as I was out there to try and build a base for women’s makeup services. This actually made me realise new market gaps for a much younger audience!

It was brilliant to see the smiles at the end of the makeovers even down to the 5 year olds. This particular girl (in the photograph) came back to me twice! First she had a mermaid inspired look then came back when it was quieter for a different style. We opted for hair Glitter over two half braids and soft makeup because she was so young and didn’t need more than a subtle look. She was beautiful and I totally envy everyone’s good skin I worked with!

I can’t stop thinking about how much better I’d have been if I’d have been more prepared about these young ages and had a bigger table. Stupid; but these things are lessons for next time I do an event.

It was a long day but a great day.

By closing time I was well and truly knackered.

I didn’t earn a lot of money that day but I earned something much more valuable.. recongnition, knowledge of different age groups and more experience.

I would say I’d like to do another festival in maybe a new area and be fully prepared for the little ones as much as the older ones. It was a fun day and a totally new experience, now I am much more aware of what it’s like to work on events! I feel like this has given me a bit of a confidence boost towards my business.

Until next time

Friday Update / Early August Faves ✨

Hello my lovelies!

Sorry for not blogging lately but it’s been a little hectic! On the bad side of things my aunty had stroke is in hospital, she is getting better thank god and I will be visiting her tomorrow and I can’t wait to just cuddle her up! Other issues have been going back to work (😭) being emotionally and physically drained and preparing for my first makeup job on Sunday! So at the moment I’m literally all over the place.

I will be doing makeovers on my local festival and it’s been constant ordering, running and content creating non stop for two weeks. Exhausting but so exciting and I know it will feel so rewarding come Sunday.

I’ve also just (finally) made my MUA Facebook page public! I try to post every two days new styles I’ve created and anything else going on! If you have the time please check it out, if you like it or would love to show a little support please give me a like! It means so much to me! (Link Below)

Cheyanne Smith Makeup Artistry

In the run up to this weekend I have found some new products I’m loving not only for clients but things I know want to purchase for my own collection!

MUA LUXE Velvet Lip Laquer

This is absolutely brilliant! The colour is so intense (as you can see from the swatch) and it drys quit fast too which I love. And an absolute bargain at £3! I don’t usually use a lot of MUA but this I couldn’t really fault at all, it’s been my favourite product I’ve tried them. Packaging is really stylish too doesn’t look like it’s only £3 looks a little more expensive so that’s a bonus for my kit! I really can’t wait for Autumn / Winter for deep rich tones to come back into fashion. So excited to see what these seasons will bring this year!

As a footnote my nails came from Primark, I brought two sets mixed them up and added my own Glitter to them (NYX Glitter On The Go in Snow)

Festival Glitters

So I purchased a multi pack of fine glitters for like £1 and then brought 8 chunky glitters what where like £9 from an eBay seller. I’ve never used them and yesterday I tried them out and I’ve got to say I’m in love! I’ve mixed the chunky and fine glitters today in their matching shades and I love the outcome. They are going to be fantastic for all manner of festival styles and even for hair! My new top tip is getting a tub of hair gels and mixing in some fine and chunky glitters to smooth over box braids! Super stylish and an anbsolute sparkle fest!

Morphe 35O

Absolutely. In. Freaking. Love.

I love the brown / orange shades so much and they are bang on trend especially the burnt orange. The shades in this pallets vary from matte to shimmer and it’s fabulous. I’ve never tried Morphe before but after hearing / seeing so much hype on the web I thought I’d give it a go and I’m so glad I did! The only thing I found I didn’t like was how lightweight the case, I must be the only one who likes heaviness because I felt like if I left it on a window sill it would probably get blown off and break. Otherwise I can’t moan, great product, love the matte black case it looks super professional!

Also here’s a couple of looks ive created this week in the run up to the festival! I’ve created a galaxy style across my face and eyes in the theme of Frozen.

Galaxy ✨

Frozen ❄️

This has turned out to be a bigger post than expected! ASo then now I’ve updated you on my faves / my life it’s time for me to pop off because it going to finally upgrade my vape today! Also I have to get a few last kit bits for Sunday, pick out some flowers for my wonderfully strong aunty and… hit reality and go to work at 2pm… not looking forward to that. (PS; I’ve fallen out with my manager so this could be a fun shift 😭)

So until next week my lovelies have a Fab Friday and Wicked Weekend. Watch out for next week we’re ill be doing a full post dedicated to Sunday! Whether your partying, grinding, chilling… enjoy yourself whatever you are doing, stay safe and have lots of fun!

With lots of love,

5 all time favourite beauty brands ✨

Every month I seem to come across a new skincare, makeup or hair care brand. It’s my love of products that first enticed me into my upcoming career in hair and makeup. The forever evolving world of beauty absolutely excites me! I have tried brand in brand out over the years trying to find my favourite brands that suit my needs and this list is the 5 that I fell in love with. They win me over for quality and prices. Upon sharing my ultimate top 5 I would love to hear from readers if we have any in common or if you have any favourites you’d love to share! My top five favourites;

  • Lush! – I love Lush! for they’re skincare products especially, that I’ve mentioned in a few previous posts. They’re bath bombs are out of this world and not over priced, smell beautiful and turn your bath into a galaxy. My favourite bath bombs would have to be Fizzbanger & Frozen. This companies products are cruelty free, against animal testing, supporters of animal rights and various causes through out the world. I could write on and on about Lush! but if you’d like to hear more please free to check out my older posts! 🌎🛁
  • Makeup Revolution – This brand I currently use for its low prices and great quality. I discovered Makeup Revolution around a year ago and I’ve used them since. In my last post I wrote about their contouring and concealer palletes that I love and will be repurchasing soon as I’m running out. I’m in love with their eyeshadow palletes and highlighters. I have just made an order from Superdrug and will post my haul in a future post next week; this includes the rainbow highlighter and I’m buzzing about receiving this!! 🌈🦄
  • Aussie – This Australian haircare brand are my ultimate favourite hair care brand ever. I love the 3 Minute Miracle treatment by them it really feels like my hair has had salon treatment. I also use they’re conditioning spray on my hair which is one of my must haves. All the products have a beautiful smell, its sweet but not fruity or over powering, think marshmallow and your there. Thank you Aussie for always making my hair feel like an angels you are truly amazing!
  • Real Techniques – I have an extensive collection of these makeup brushes and beauty blenders and I wouldn’t be with out them. I seriously can’t live with out them. The quality is absolutely brilliant!
  • Soap & Glory – the body sprays, moisturisers and THE CHRISTMAS GIFT BOXES 😍 I have loved and rated this brand for a lot of years. The body butters are wonderful and also I like to carry the hand sanitizer and hand cream by this brand. I am yet to restock they’re staple lipgloss Sexy Mother Pucker, which really pumps the lips.

I have loved these brands for many years and they never fail me. My next five brands I would love to start trying out are NARS, Inglot, Borjois, Benefit and GOSH. As a training makeup artist I’m loving trying new brands and thickening my skills and knowledge. I’m also extremely curious as to what Smashbox is like, I have heard although they are a little more expensive, the quality is insane.
*BLOGGER INSIDE UPDATE* Tonight I have signed up for tickets for The Olympia Beauty Show, London, in October this year. I am so excited to attend the event as a blogger and eager learner! I really can’t wait to see what I can learn from this event as it will be my first ever beauty event I have ever visited. I hope to come away with more knowledge, blogging content and maybe some goodies. This will be such a fun day!

As always thank you for reading this post, don’t forget to interact and have a chat!

Today’s Style 💁🏽

Today I’m travelling to Sheffield and I’ve never been before so I’m hoping to explore a little. This is not a hugely long post as I’m in the car and switching between chatting to my parents, blogging and trying to stay still as my little sister is asleep on my legs 😂😫

Today I’m wearing black ripped jeans from New Look, black / nude striped long sleeve crop top from Pretty Little Thing (from their eBay store as there’s fantastic discounts) and knee high suede grey boots. I always carry my leather jacket as it’s my go-to staple piece which goes with most outfits and still looks stylish. I’ve added accessories such as my Swarovski ring and bracelet, choker and clear framed sunglasses 😎. I will be looking out at new styles today and anything I find that I think will be a hit this summer I will be sharing tomorrow!

My makeup is mainly from Superdrug and other drugstores such as Boots. The only expensive makeup I’m wearing today is my MAC foundation. In a recent twitter poll I learned that the highest percentage of girls actually prefer drugstore brands. I, myself, love drugstore makeup and only have a few very expensive makeup items for weekend usage. I have Primark £1 nails on in baby pink pointed shape with Kylie Jenner glitter nail polish on the thumb & ring finger. Style does not mean spending heaps of cash, work with what you have and be smart where you buy from.

I curled my hair last night after washing it, I used coconut oil and blow dried just before hand. Lee Stafford Chopstick curlers hold curls in my hair for days after curling! My curls have dropped more today which is what I wanted as last night I knew the curls would be too tight if  I left it until this morning to my hair. It was a time saver this morning and looks great still!

Weathers looking good this morning and I’m now going to save my phone battery so I can get some photos later. Looking forward to seeing Sheffield! If you’d like to see me make a step by step tutorial on my makeup artistry skills I’d be more than happy to receive a comment of encouragement! You also can always tweet me @thatcheyannes 🖤

My visit to Oxford Streets LUSH! Why I’m addicted and why you should be to

I discovered my love for Lush after my best friend introduced me to their products a few Christmases ago with Snow Fairy shower gel and Fairy Dust dusting powder. I always loved walking by Lush stores because they always smelt so good, you can smell the store before you see it sometimes and upon glancing they are bursting with colour and customers, but I never actually took the time to go inside. Now, a year later, I visit Lush every fortnight or order from their mobile app and I’ve recently visited their London Oxford Street store, which may I add blew me completely away!

Lush was actually founded November 1995  (my mum literally had just popped me out two months earlier) by a beauty therapist and a herbal trichologist (a hair and scalp specialist) in Poole, Dorset UK. 21 years later they have around 900 stores worldwide. They only test products on human volunteers NEVER animals & they only use fresh ingredients; vegetables, fruits, essential oils, herb infusions, safe synthetics. The inventors of the products started by visiting farmers markets and flower shops for their wonderful ingredients. They proudly boast on their website they are against animal testing, 100% vegetarian and they hand make they’re products.

Now you’ve had that small bit of education on the company, I would love your attention to tell you about my Oxford Street experience and how I felt like I was losing my Lush virginity all over again.

Walking down Oxford street I could smell the Lush products shops away before I even reached their store but when I did get there I was amazed. If your a Harry Potter fan you’ll understand what I’m about to say; remember when the Weasley twins opened their magical joke shop up and it was buzzing with life and colour? That’s how it felt walking into this store a few weeks back. Customers flocked, staff members were everywhere showing off products, it was like 15 times the size of my local Lush, two floors of wonderful products and spa treatments below the ground floor. I headed upstairs as that was where all the bath bombs were. It’s unreal how good it smells and looks up there it was like walking up to heaven. Staff were so friendly but they attitudes weren’t fake they genuinely seemed so happy to help. One of them actually took me to a basin of water and dropped a Metamorphis bath bomb inside to show me the effects (a black glittery bathbomb that bursts into a rainbow of colour, its like my soul) I didn’t buy that bath bomb that day, but a week later I ended up ordering it and its actually on my shelf waiting to be used tonight (or Dragons Egg either way I’ll review them both!) That day I did buy the bathbomb in the my featured photo ‘Twilight’ what smelt so beautiful and delicate and glittered in the water, the Rose Jam Bubbleroon (which you crumble under running water and that smelt insanely nice) and the Mother Earth Bath Bomb. Mother Earth I purchased for my best friend who introduced me to Lush and he said it was absolutely fantastic using it. Normal bombs weigh around 15og- this mother trucker weighed around 700g! Remember to follow me on Instagram thatcheyannesmith_xo as I will always post videos on the bathbombs so you check out the amazing things these bombs do as they caress the hot water.

I love Lush a lot. I use a lot of their skin products but I’d like to do a separate post later in the week for those. Two of my everyday skincare products I do use is 9 to 5 cleansing lotion and Breath Of Fresh Air toning water (spray.) Tonight alongside a bath bomb I will be trying out their shampoo bar NEW. Shampoo bars are like soap bars but only they are shampoo?? It’s strange but I like it and my hair actually has gone into better condition since using a previous bar.

I’d love to hear from fellow Lush fans about your favourite products are and if there’s anything I could possibly review for you guys. I really hope for non lushys that upon reading this you’ve got the tingle inside to want to learn more!
